Newport Summer Trip 2004 Photo Gallery

These are photos of our three day trip to Newport, Oregon where we stayed at the Sylvia Beach Hotel.  Each room there is themed after a famous author.  If you click on a photo below it will show you a larger version of that photo.

On the road to Newport amongst the trees of Oregon.

Another forest/road photo.

A thicket of firs. There are many of these type of evergreen in Oregon.

Some of the hills of Oregon.

Approching Newport; you can make out the fog that is very previlent on the coast.

A photo along Nye beach at Newport.

Another photo of Nye beach.

Some more of Nye beach.

The Sylvia Beach Hotel which is on Nye beach. By the way Sylvia Beach is the name of a famous author, not the location.

The Dr Seuss Room is where we spent our first night. We were going to stay in the Hemingway room, but this room had a view of the ocean.

Not only did it have a view, but the theme was too fun to pass up. They even had many of his books to read as well as man other surprises.

In their gift shop they had many practical as well as fun gifts. Here is an librarian action figure that will actually shush people. :-)

An abstract photo of the base of a huge tree trunk.

Some more tree trunk.

Our 2nd night we spent in the Agatha Christie room. It is now our new favorite along with the Collette room that we stayed in a few years back.

Even a fireplace, but with it being summer no fire for us.

A little book nook, and door leading to our deck over looking Nye beach and the Pacific ocean.

Some more of the room. There was more to this photo, but Rich's thumb had to be cut out. lol :-D

A view of Nye Beach from our deck.

A close up of the door way to the deck. It is made of fused glass. And if you look real close you can see writing on some of the glass.

More writing on the fused glass.

Extreme closeup of some of the fused glass.

A little history of the Newport Oregon area and the lighthouse.

A vew of the harbor entrance from the lighthouse.

The old Yaquina Bay lighthouse on the edge of Newport, Oregon.

The bridge for Highway 101 over the harbor entrance to Newport.

The coast by the town of Yachats, Oregon.

Some more of the Yachats area. Love the fog. :-)

Some more fog and rocky beach of the Yachats area.

A tidal pool near Yachats with some mucsles and sea anenome (the tiny gree thing in the middle)

Another tidal pool near Yachats with some larger sea anenome.

Some more tidal pool.

A sign telling about the tidal pools and the creatures that can be found there.

Neptune Beach which was south of Yachats but north of Florence, Oregon.

Amazing to watch the mist roll right off the sand.

A fun stone formation that someone put together on Neptune Beach.

A starfish we found in one of the tidal pools at Neptune beach.

Diane enjoying the wind and salty air of the Oregon coast.

"Come follow me and I'll show you more of the beach."

A show of one of the many beaches of the Oregon coast.

A lighthouse along one of the rocky parts of the coast.

The Oregon coast also has very sandy beaches as well. This is a shot just north of Florence, Oregon.
